Vegas News:  It’s Gaga, an Resort Refresh, and more MGM

In travel news for February 17, 2022 we talk Vegas, a new show returns, a popular hotel has completed a large refresh, and we also talk the financial health of one of the largest operators on the strip.

Lady Gaga’s critically acclaimed “Jazz & Piano” production will be returning to Las Vegas this spring.  Lady Gaga will be playing nine shows out of Dolby Live at Park MGM, tickets are currently on sale.  The show will kick off on April 14 and celebrates Lady Gaga’s love of the great American song book as well as her album “Love for Sale” where she sang along side Tony Bennett.

The MGM Owned Aria Resort & Casino has finished its most recent refresh of 420 SkySuites and 7 of its SkyVillas.  Each SkyVilla has a distinct layout, what the resort calls “shape defying furniture” as well as floor to ceiling windows.  While the SkySuites have a mid-century modern aesthetic, new color schemes, whimsical art, and even custom designed drink coasters. Suites are available in 1 and 2 bedrooms.

MGM has been busy during the pandemic, purchasing full control of the Aira and the Vdara properties, additionally the company plans on finishing it’s acquisition of the Cosmopolitan by the end of the second quarter.

For the fiscal year 2021 MGM reported a stronger then expected fourth quarter, making surprisingly profitable.  Propelled by a strong return of the leisure traveler as well as strong gaming revenue MGM Resorts International closed 2021 with margins exceeding 2019 levels.  And it’s not only MGM that had a good year, other Vegas Strip properties reported increases of around 5% over 2019.  So even in the pandemic Las Vegas was not only able to survive, but thrive.
