Travel News: Princess Cruises, Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings, and an Airfare Update

In travel news for August 11th, 2022 we have updates from Princess Cruises, Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings, and some good news for Air Travel

Princess Cruises Cancels 11 Sailings

Employment rates in the travel sector continue to fall behind the overwhelming demand.  In a recent example Princess Cruises has announced the cancelation of 11 sailings that were to take place on the Diamond Princess out of San Diego.  You may remember us discussing the Diamond Princess being repositioned from the Asia Pacific region to sail out of California.  The cause of the cancelations is insufficient staff to provide the experience Princess Cruises is known for.  The sailings affected fall between September and October.  Princess has been aggressively trying to fill staff vacancies and they believe that these cancelations will allow them the necessary time to fully staff up for future sailings.

Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Reports Huge Demand

Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings recently dropped the vaccination requirement for select sailings, the company is now reporting a huge surge in bookings immediately following the policy change, showing a huge demand from travelers wanting to avoid pandemic restrictions. With this recent spike in demand, and the sustained increase in overall cruise demand this year Norwegian is projecting record sales for sailings in 2023.  So if you are thinking of taking a cruise anytime soon you will want to book soon.  If you are interested in taking a cruise  and would like to know what options are available feel free to give us, or your Travel Advisor a call.

Airfare Pricing is about to Drop

Hopper, the popular travel booking platform, is forecasting a decrease in airfare costs for round trip domestic flights.  The expectation is that domestic Air Travel pricing could drop by as much as 40% as compared to the peak summer pricing.  Pricing for international air travel is expected to fall by as much as 19%.  While not in time for the busy summer travel months, this is still good news for travelers.  In addition to an expected overall price reduction there are other steps that travelers can take to keep air travel costs down such as booking early, and flying when demand is low such as weekdays.  Your Travel Advisor can help you identify ideal times to fly for the best pricing.
