In Travel News for October 11th, 2022 we talk about flying taxi’s, mediteranian cruises, and premium and luxury Air Travel.
American Airlines to Expand Premium and Luxury Seating
American Airlines recently announced a plan to increase the premium seat count on their wide body planes by about 45% over the next four years. This is in response to a strong, post pandemic demand for premium leisure travel. We’ve been seeing a huge increase in demand for premium economy and business class tickets, especially on long haul flights. Currently supply has been limited, with many airlines facing staffing shortages especially pilot shortages that have limited the number of planes an airline can have in service. Now most of these changes seem to be on new planes that will be entering service in 2024 so don’t expect an increase in premium inventory any time soon.
Celestyal Cruises Drops Vaccination Requirement
Celestyal Cruises has recently announced that they will no longer require passengers to provide proof of vaccination or proof of recovery to sail. This follows a recent decision by Greece to relax restrictions on cruise passengers. Celestyal specializes in Greek Island and Mediterranean sailings. Travelers will still be required to provide a negative covid test pre-embarkation until March 2023. As with every cruise line Celestyal conforms to the rules of every country along a sailings itinerary, so if one country on an itinerary requires vaccination then that sailing will only be open to fully vaccinated travelers.
Delta Plans Home to Airport Flying Taxi Service
Soon travelers flying on Delta Airlines will be able to travel from their homes to the airport in an electric plane. The airline has partnered with Joby to shuttle passengers to the airport. Joby will operate a fleet of vertical take off and landing, electric planes. Delta plans on integrating Joby directly into their customer facing channels. The service will be first available in New York and Las Angeles in 2024. Joby aircraft have already flown over 1,000 test flights and has recently received their Part 135 Air Carrier Certification from the Federal Aviation Administration.
