In Travel News for October 12th, 2022 we talk about an increase in trans-atlantic flights, earning miles at Starbucks, and damage to Easter Island’s iconic statues

United Airlines Expands Transatlantic Routes & Flights

During the busy summer travel season many airlines throughout the world were hit with staffing shortages that forced a reduction in both flights and routes. Some that were concerned that the reductions would continue through 2023, however United Airlines isn’t one of them.  The airlines recently released their 2023 schedule which induces new transatlantic routes and flights.  Some of the highlights include new non-stop routes from Newark to Malaga, Spain; Stockholm, Sweden; and Dubi in the United Arab Emirates.  United is also increasing flights to Barcelona, Spain; Paris, France; Rome, Italy; London, England; Berlin, Germany; and Shannon, Ireland.  The Vice President of Network Planning and Alliances said that the airline saw “incredibly strong demand for transatlantic flights” which helped guide this expansion.

Delta Air Lines Partners with Starbucks

Delta Air Lines is partnering with Starbucks  to bring customers more loyalty points.  Those that are members of the Delta SkyMiles program and Starbucks Rewards program can link their two accounts to earn 1 mile for every dollar spent on eligible purchases at Starbucks, and double stars at participating Starbucks on eligible purchases on days they are flying with Delta. Travelers who link their accounts and make a qualifying purchase before December 31st will also receive an additional 500 miles on Delta and 150 stars with Starbucks.

Easter Island Moai Statues Damaged

The statues on Easter Island are iconic and known the world over.  Unfortunately these statues have suffered damage recently from a forest fire.  The extent of the damage is not yet known, authorizes from Chile’s National Monument Council are currently on site and assign the damage.  The park where 386 of the statues reside is currently closed while authorities investigate if the fire is the work of an arsonist.  Easter Island is a Bucket List destination, and while not easy to get to it is still a favorite of adventurous travelers.
