In travel news for May 16th, 2023 we talk the proposed development plan for the site of an iconic Las Vegas casino.
Attention all travelers and sports enthusiasts: Las Vegas, United States, is set to become home to a brand new Major League Baseball stadium, bringing a whole new dimension to the city's entertainment offerings. The iconic Tropicana Las Vegas casino hotel site will be transformed into a state-of-the-art ballpark, following a recent binding agreement between Tropicana owner Bally's Corp., real estate investment trust Gaming and Leisure Properties Inc. (GLPI), and the Oakland Athletics.
The upcoming baseball park, situated at the bustling intersection of Las Vegas Boulevard and Tropicana Avenue, will span across nine acres of the 35-acre property. Designed to accommodate over 30,000 fans, this impressive stadium will feature a retractable roof for the ultimate spectator experience, regardless of the weather.
In a move to revitalize the area, the longstanding Tropicana hotel will be demolished to make way for new developments. Bally's Corp. has plans to construct a brand new 1,500-room hotel-casino just across from the stadium. The hotel-casino will be a separate entity from the ballpark, offering travelers an enhanced and immersive Las Vegas experience.
Bally's Corp. expressed its excitement about the partnership with the Oakland Athletics and the potential impact on Las Vegas. The new ballpark is expected to pave the way for further development in the area, creating opportunities for iconic, global brands to collaborate and market at one of the busiest intersections in the country.
However, the project is still subject to legislative approval and the Oakland Athletics' green light from Major League Baseball for relocation. The Tropicana Las Vegas was acquired by Bally's from GLPI in September 2022, with Bally's leasing the land underlying the hotel from GLPI as part of the transaction. The hotel is part of the DoubleTree by Hilton portfolio.
This groundbreaking development promises to add a new dimension to the Las Vegas Strip, attracting travelers from around the world to enjoy baseball games and the city's renowned hospitality offerings. Keep an eye on this space, as the future of entertainment in Las Vegas is about to hit a home run!
