A Cruise Through Time: Exploring U.S. Colonial History with Princess Cruises

Cruise enthusiasts with a penchant for history are in for a treat in the summer of 2024. Princess Cruises has announced a new series of roundtrip cruises that offer passengers a voyage back in time to the roots of U.S. colonial history.

Departing from New York City, these journeys will provide the unique opportunity to visit prominent colonial towns ahead of the significant 250th Anniversary of the American Revolution. The itineraries feature port calls in historic locations such as Yorktown, Virginia; Charleston, South Carolina; Boston, Massachusetts; and Halifax, Nova Scotia.

In what is being touted as a first for major Cruise lines, Princess Cruises will dock in Yorktown, Virginia, the site of the American Revolution's climactic battle. The surrounding area, rich in history, includes renowned sites such as Colonial Williamsburg and Jamestown, which are prominent landmarks of America's formative years.

June 2024 will witness the launch of three 10- and 11-day Colonial Heritage itineraries. Prospective passengers can start booking these sailings from May 25, 2023.

In addition to the Cruise, Princess Cruises also plans to offer a seven-night land tour. This will allow guests to further explore the rich tapestry of American history. Stops include the U.S. Capitol in Washington D.C., Thomas Jefferson's famed Monticello estate, Colonial Williamsburg, Independence Hall in Philadelphia, and the historic Gettysburg Battlefield.

But the new offerings from Princess Cruises do not stop there. In another exciting development, the cruise line is adding three Greenland ports to its Canada/New England sailing on the Enchanted Princess. This 17-day itinerary, launching on August 11, will depart roundtrip from Boston, Massachusetts. The voyage will include visits to the Greenlandic towns of Nuuk, Qaqortoq, and Nanortalik, as well as stops in Newfoundland.

These new voyages mark an innovative step for Princess Cruises, combining historical exploration with the pleasure of cruising. The fusion of the past and present will allow travelers to immerse themselves in the early history of America, all while enjoying the luxury and comfort of a Princess Cruise. For history buffs and cruise lovers alike, this marks an exciting and unique opportunity.
