Travel News: United Kingdom, Smithsonian, and Carnival Cruise Line

The United Kingdom (U.K.) has updated it's COVID protocols for visitors, the Smithsonian has re-evaluated their mask policy, and Carnival Cruise Line welcomes a new ship into it's fleet.

United Kingdom

The United Kingdom is lifting its quarantine requirement for fully vaccinated visitors from America and Europe  starting Monday.  While England was the first to announce the change, officials from Scotland and Northers Ireland have updated their rules to match.  Under the updated requirement visitors will still be required to take a COVID test before they leave, and again after they arrive in the UK.  Travelers returning to the US are still required to provide a negative COVID test, or proof of recovery from COVID, even if fully vaccinated.

Smithsonian

The Smithsonian has re-implemented mask rules for both visitors and guests in all in door spaces.  In a recent press release the Smithsonian said beginning on July 30, the museum "will require all visitors ages 2 and older to wear a mask in its museums and indoor spaces, regardless of vaccination status.”  It goes on to say that visitors that are fully vaccinated against COVID will not be required to wear masks in outdoor areas, such as the Smithsonian National Zoo and the Smithsonian's outdoor gardens.

Carnival Cruise Line

This Saturday will be the maiden voyage for Carnival Cruise’s newest ship the ‘Mardi Gras’.  Originally this ship was set to sail in August 2020, however this date was pushed back several times due to the pandemic.  This is Carnival Cruise Lines first foray into the mega resort-at-sea arena.  With the debut of the Mardi Gras Carnival now has a ship listed in the top 10 biggest cruise ships ever built.  The Mardi Gras includes a roller coaster, water park, a broader array of suites, and new dining options such as the first Emeril Lagasse restaurant at sea.
