COVID-19

COVID-19, also known as the novel coronavirus, has radically changed the way we travel around the world. As countries implement stricter travel restrictions, travelers are finding new ways to explore their destinations and manage their travels during this uncertain and unprecedented time.

The most significant change to travel since the onset of COVID-19 has been the near-universal requirement for travel-related quarantine. Many governments have implemented enforced quarantine periods of between fourteen days to a month for travelers arriving from outside their borders in an effort to contain the spread of the virus. Of course, the quarantine restrictions vary from country to country, and even from neighborhood to neighborhood.

In the wake of international travel restrictions, domestic and regional travel has become increasingly popular. As countries continue to restrict international arrivals, domestic travelers have stepped in to fill the void, figuring out ways to navigate their region in order to access scenery and experiences unavailable to them before the pandemic.

In addition to navigating quarantine periods, travelers must adhere to rigorous health, safety, and testing protocols. Health screenings, temperature checks and, in some cases, symptom surveys are regularly conducted upon boarding and during travel. Some airlines and Train companies have taken extra measures, such as seating travelers further apart in airplanes or implementing additional sanitization protocols inside train carriages. Passengers may also need to present negative-Covid tests upon boarding and during the journey.

The implementation of contactless check-in processes prior to departure has become commonplace in the travel industry. Passengers are encouraged to book tickets and check-in online and to download necessary documents ahead of time in order to minimize touchpoints throughout the travel journey.

Public health remains at the heart of post-pandemic travel.Travelers must also ensure that their accommodation is up to necessary government health standards. Hotels, AirBnBs and resorts are all moving towards contactless check-in processes and are regularly inspected for their commitment to health and safety. Of course, travelers must also be aware of the local rules and regulations in the area they are traveling to and must adhere to the necessary protocol throughout their stay.

One of the greatest challenges to travelers has been the issue of Travel Insurance. Although some policies may cover extended cancellations due to COVID-19, many policies exclude claims related to the pandemic. That is why it is important for travelers to research their insurance policies and make sure they are covered. Similarly, it is important for travelers to check the refund and cancellation policies of airlines, accommodation providers and travel companies, as many have modified their policies in order to accommodate travelers during these times.

In light of all of these precautions, it has become increasingly important to be mindful of personal hygiene and to practice social distancing wherever possible. Travelers must stay informed and take necessary precautions during their travels, including wearing a mask in public spaces, washing hands regularly, and avoiding mass gatherings.

With the right precautions and knowledge, travelers can still achieve the ultimate travel experience during this pandemic. Through mindful decision-making, staying informed on travel restrictions, and following the guidelines of health experts, travelers can still appreciate the beauty of the world.
