In travel news for June 21, 2022 we talk about Japan, New Zealand and the potential JetBlue - Spirit - Frontier merger.
JetBlue - Spirit Airline Merger
JetBlue has recently updated their Proposal to acquire Spirit Airlines. The new deal increases the price per share to $33.50 as well as updates their divestiture commitment in an effort to overcome regulatory concerns from Spirit. Spirit is currently doing the necessary work to properly evaluate the updated proposal from JetBlue while working within the framework of the merger agreement they are currently operating under with Frontier Airlines. With this new proposal it’s looking more likely that Spirit will select the financially superior offer from JetBlue, however no decision has yet been made. We will continue to provide updates as they become available.
New Zealand
New Zealand has taken a very cautious approach to re-opening their travel sector, and was one of the last countries to reopen. As part of their reopening plan the country hopped to drop pre-departure testing towards the end of July. It would seem that things are going better then expected, New Zealand recently announced that starting this week they will be dropping the pre-departure testing requirement. New Zealand is only open to fully vaccinated travelers and requires COVID tests to be taken upon arrival and again on the fifth day of travel.
