In Travel News forJanuary 10th, 2023 we talk about MSC Cruises accomplishing an industry first, Thailands confusing travel restrictions, and American Airlines eliminating a once popular route.
American Airlines Eliminates Miami to Tel Aviv Route
American Airlines launched a three times a week route between Miami, Florida and Tel Aviv, Israel back in June 2021 and later increased the route to daily service. The airline has now decided to change course due to the route not meeting performance expectations. As of March 24th this year American Airlines will be discontinuing the route. The move will result in El Al being the only airline providing flights between the two cities. American Airlines will still be operating its other daily route between Tel Aviv and New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport. The airline did stated that it will be reaching out to customers who have been affected by the change and offering alternative arrangements.
Thailand Reverses Course on Pandemic Entry Restrictions
Recently Thailand reimposed pandemic era travel restrictions such as requiring full vaccination, negative tests, proof of Travel Insurance, among other restrictions. These measures are in large part a response to the ongoing outbreak in China and the opening of China for travel. As you can imagine the reintroduction of pandemic era restrictions immediately started causing confusion and some outrage. So much so that Thailand canceled plans to bring back these restrictions. So right now travelers to Thailand will not be required to show proof of vaccination, nor a negative COVID test, or have travel insurance. While travel insurance isn’t mandatory, as a Travel Advisor I encourage all international travelers to consider travel insurance.
MSC Cruises Simultaneously Launches Two World Cruises
MSC Cruises, currently the third largest cruise brand in the world, has recently accomplished an industry first. The cruise line has just simultaneously set sail on two world cruises. The MSC Poesy and MSC Magnifica both recently departed from Genoa, Italy; sailing together in the Mediterranean. As they leave the Mediterranean the ships will part ways, each going on their own journey throughout the world. The Magnifica will sail a 117 day voyage while the Poesy will have a 119 day voyage. Both ships will visit numerous destinations across the globe. Along the journey different guest chefs will join the cruise to showcase local cuisines in a gourmet setting. World cruises have been gaining in popularity, being able to travel the world without having to transfer hotels or cities is very appealing.
