John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK)
John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) is the primary international airport serving New York City, one of the world’s largest and busiest hubs for travel. Located just 15 miles outside of the bustling city, it is one of the few 24-hour airports in the United States and provides both domestic and international travel to destinations all around the world. The airport welcomed over 59 million passengers in 2019 and is a multibillion dollar asset that is vital to both local and global travel.
The airport is named after the 35th President of the United States of America, John F. Kennedy, and is owned and managed by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. It is spread across a sprawling 5,000 acres and consists of seven terminals- Terminal 1, 2, 4, 5, 7, 8 and the new Delta Terminal and four runways, each with its own designation.
One of JFK’s most attractive facilities is Terminal 4, the 3 billion dollar international terminal. It is the largest and busiest terminal and is home to both international and domestic flights from several different airlines. It features over 300,000 square feet of retail and dining, live art installations and the newly renovated JFK AirTrain which can take passengers to the heart of Manhattan in just 25 minutes.
Airport facilities include unique amenities like a yoga studio, four hotel locations, and a free shuttle service between terminals. There’s also a 24-hour observation deck, a US Customs and Border Protection office, and car rental services. There’s also an onsite USO lounge, as well as a full service children’s play area.
Given the diversity of its passengers and the far-reaching destinations that it serves, JFK is a unique mix of cultures and languages. There are fluent, multilingual personnel located throughout the airport to help travelers with their needs. There are also cultural awareness programs, language classes and other helpful resources to assist in navigating the airport.
JFK has several access points available for people traveling to and from the airport. The AirTrain JFK provides convenient connections to the major Long Island Rail Road and Subway stations, as well as various bus stations throughout the city. There are also taxi and limousine services available outside the terminals, which provide travel to Manhattan and the other boroughs.
JFK is one of the premier international airports in the world and is a major source of tourism for New York City. It provides convenient air travel to far-reaching destinations and is a great asset to both local and global travel. Its amenities and access points make it a popular hub for both business and leisure trips. Its diverse personnel offer assistance in multiple languages, and its unique observation deck provides breathtaking views of the bustling cityscape. It is a destination in itself and a destination for international travelers.
