In travel news for September 1, 2023 we talk about MSC Cruises expanding their Middle East itineraries, the luxurious Waldorf Astoria comes to Egypt, and more strikes to affect travel in Europe this fall.
MSC Cruises Expands Winter Itineraries in the Middle East
Travelers planning a winter holiday in the Middle East should consider MSC Cruises' expanded itineraries. The cruise line has added new ports to two of its three Middle East routes for the winter 2023-24 season. MSC Virtuosa will sail 17 seven-night voyages in the Arabian Gulf, including a new port call in Manama, Bahrain. MSC Opera is returning to the region with 22 seven-night sailings, featuring ports like Khasab in Oman and Fujairah in the UAE. Lastly, MSC Orchestra will operate a new route from Safaga, Egypt, visiting exciting destinations like Jeddah in Saudi Arabia and Sharm El-Sheikh in Egypt. The company is also growing its 'Fly&Cruise' program by adding 80,000 return air seats to attract global tourists.
Waldorf Astoria Debuts Luxurious Cairo Heliopolis Hotel
Waldorf Astoria Hotels & Resorts is entering the Egyptian market with its new establishment, Waldorf Astoria Cairo Heliopolis. Located close to Egypt’s presidential palace, the hotel aims to serve as a luxurious oasis amid the bustling streets of Cairo. The property will feature 252 deluxe rooms and suites, four restaurants, and a Waldorf Astoria Spa. For event planners, the hotel offers state-of-the-art meeting rooms and a large ballroom. This expansion coincides with Egypt's tourism surge, which saw 11.7 million tourists in 2022, marking a 46% increase from the previous year. The hotel is well-positioned to cater to tourists looking for easy access to Downtown Cairo, Khan El Khalili Bazaar, and the upcoming Grand Egyptian Museum.
Europe Braces for Widespread Travel Strikes this fall
Travelers headed to Europe this autumn must prepare for disruptions due to multiple planned strikes. France's largest air traffic control union has called for strikes on September 15 and October 13, coinciding with the Rugby World Cup. These strikes can affect both domestic and international flights. Meanwhile, in Italy, ground staff and air traffic controllers are planning walkouts on September 8 and September 16, respectively. In the United Kingdom, Luton Airport ground staff have announced strikes on September 6 and September 13, which are expected to particularly affect Wizz Air passengers. Additionally, the UK's biggest rail union has planned strikes on September 2. Travelers are advised to stay updated and plan accordingly.
