LaGuardia Airport (LGA)
LaGuardia Airport serves millions of travelers each year the New York tri-state area. Located in Queens across the East River from Manhattan, LaGuardia airport is conveniently located for both leisure and business travelers. With more than 80% of its passengers traveling domestically, LaGuardia is the busiest airport in the New York City area, providing travelers with many amenities and services.
Inside the main terminal, travelers will find an array of restaurants and shops, as well as ticketing counters for all major airlines and rental car agencies. LaGuardia airport also offers a variety of transportation options to get travelers to and from their designated gates. This includes a taxi, shuttle, and public transportation pick-up spots located outside the terminal.
For those flying international, LaGuardia offers the option of using the Global Entry program, which allows travelers to quickly move through immigration and customs. U.S. Global Entry members are given a specific kiosk to use upon returning to the U.S. and the information provided is stored in the system, making returning to the U.S. quicker and easier.
For those flying domestically, LaGuardia has started a “Fast Track” program, which allows passengers to check in and print their boarding passes before heading to the security checkpoint. This process not only helps passengers travel more efficiently, but also helps reduce time spent in lines. An additional feature of “Fast Track” is an express lane for TSA Precheck customers, which will significantly expedite the security process.
The airfield at LaGuardia is active 24/7 and requires passengers to be screened before entering their gates. Baggage and cargo must be screened, and all airlines at LaGuardia utilize the latest in security technology and enhanced security measures to ensure the safety of those traveling through the airport.
LaGuardia has been undergoing an extensive plan for redevelopment, and the current terminal complex is expected to be more efficient, modernized and better integrated. The main terminal will have a grand central hall that offers a variety of amenities and services, including retail and dining options. There will also be a central utility plant with state-of-the-art technology to reduce energy use, and an automated people mover that links all airport terminals.
The airport is committed to providing travelers with an enjoyable experience, a commitment that is demonstrated by the department’s efforts to make sure the airport is a clean and safe place to travel. Additionally, LaGuardia offers a variety of customer service and assistance programs, including wheelchair services, pet relief locations, and a Marketplace that offers information on local attractions and restaurants.
